Not like shipping anything else
Shipping jewelry isn't like shipping anything else. One package can hold tens of thousands of dollars, and carriers have strict declared-value limits. A lost or mislabeled shipment can mean a six-figure insurance claim, so shipping built into your jewelry software is a safeguard.
The carriers jewelers use
Jewelers commonly use four kinds of carrier: UPS, the most common for domestic retail shipments, and FedEx, strong for expedited and international, USPS Registered Mail for very high-value packages, and jewelry carriers like Malca-Amit, Brink's and Ferrari for the highest values.
What a complete shipping integration includes
A complete shipping integration should include: rate shopping across carriers, declared value and insurance calculated from the item, and a signature required on high-value shipments, bulk label printing for busy fulfillment days, automatic tracking notices to customers, and memo out by shipment, with the full chain of custody, return labels for memo and repairs, tracking written back into the order, and an audit trail for insurance claims.
Why copying into carrier websites is a liability
Copying addresses into carrier websites is how insurance claims get denied: address typos, the wrong declared value, a missing signature requirement, and no link between the shipment and the order.
How shipping works in WJewel
In WJewel, shipping starts from the record itself: create the order, repair, memo or online shipment, click Ship to see rates, insurance and delivery dates, and print the label, the tracking number, declared value and carrier are stored with the order, the customer gets the tracking link, and delivery updates the record.
Shipping jewelry safely
And to ship jewelry safely: never write “jewelry” on the outside of a package, require a signature above your risk threshold, and declare the real replacement cost, use registered mail or a jewelry carrier for the highest values, photograph the packaging, and reconcile shipped memo every week.
