Self Check-In Tablet for Jewelry Stores

WJewel now has a self check-in tablet for your counter. While your salesperson writes up a repair on their own screen, the customer checks their contact details on the tablet, reviews the repair and what it costs, and signs for it with a finger. Customers who come in to pick up a repair or make a payment check in on the same tablet.

Why a Tablet at the Repair Counter

A repair drop-off at a busy counter usually goes the same way. The customer stands and waits while someone types their name, address and phone number. The phone number on file is two years old, and the email has a typo nobody notices until the “your repair is ready” message bounces. And weeks later, at pick-up, the customer does not remember agreeing to the price.

Self check-in fixes all three. The customer types their own details, the details go straight into their customer record, and the repair they sign for is the repair you saved.

How a Repair Drop-Off Works

  1. Start the repair the usual way. Pick the customer on the repair screen and click Add. Their name, address, mobile number and email appear on the tablet by themselves.
  2. The customer checks their details while you write up the job. They correct anything that is out of date and choose how they want to hear that the repair is ready: a text, a call or an email. When they submit, the changes are saved to their customer record and your screen shows exactly what changed.
  3. Send the repair for signature. The tablet shows the repair the way the claim prints: the work, the original price, each discount and what the customer saves, the sales tax, the payments received and the balance due, along with your store’s repair terms.
  4. Change something, and the tablet follows. If you change the price or add a line while the repair is on the tablet, the tablet updates within a few seconds and asks the customer to look again.
  5. The customer signs with a finger. When you save the repair, the signature is filed with the repair order and prints on the full-page repair claim. It is filed only if your screen still shows exactly what the customer signed.

Pick-Ups, Payments and New Purchases

When nobody is working with them yet, the tablet greets each customer with four choices: drop off a repair, pick up a repair, make a payment or a new purchase. The customer enters their mobile number, and if they have it, their claim or invoice number.

The check-in then appears in a small panel on every WJewel screen in that store, already matched to the customer’s account and their open repairs. One click puts their details on the tablet, and Done clears the check-in once they have been helped. Typing a phone number on the tablet never shows anything about an account there; only your staff see the match.

Setting Up a Tablet

Setting up a tablet takes about a minute. Open your WJewel check-in page in the tablet’s web browser, sign in once as a member of staff, give the tablet a name such as Counter 1, and pick its store. From then on the tablet opens straight to the welcome screen and needs no sign-in. You can see, rename or remove your tablets in WJewel at any time.

For a true kiosk, pin the browser to the page: Guided Access on an iPad, or screen pinning on Android.

Locked to the Check-In Screen

The tablet only ever shows the check-in screen. It has no menu, it cannot open any other page of WJewel, and it is not signed in as a member of staff, so leaving it on the counter is safe. Your salespeople send to it from the repair screen in the WJewel web version or from the repair form in the desktop program.

Quick Answers

What kind of tablet do I need?
An iPad or an Android tablet with an up-to-date web browser. Self check-in runs in the browser, so there is no app to install.

Can a customer get into the rest of WJewel from the tablet?
No. The tablet shows only the check-in screen. It has no menu and cannot open any other page of WJewel, and it is not signed in as a member of staff.

Where is the customer signature kept?
With the repair order, filed when you save it. It prints on the full-page repair claim.

What if I change the repair after the customer has seen it?
The tablet shows the change within a few seconds and asks the customer to look again. The signature is filed only if your screen still shows exactly what the customer signed; otherwise WJewel asks you to send it for signature again.

Does it work with the desktop version of WJewel?
Yes. The repair screen in the web version and the repair form in the desktop program can both send to the tablet. The tablet itself runs the web version.

I already use WJewel. How do I start?
Call us at (646) 578-8300 or email info@wjewel.com, and we will help you set up your first tablet.
